No supplies left behind: Mother-daughter team forms nonprofit to help Guyanese schools
During fourth grade, Alexandra Beharry-Yambo and her mother Michelle Beharry had the sudden realization that they were doing a disservice to their community and the environment.
Rather than throw away used supplies that had potential to be upcycled, the two decided to do something to combat their waste and help improve students’ quality of education.

After suddenly becoming a single mother when her daughters were 11, Cohen was forced to become the main support system for her family. That meant getting a job as a publicist, securing a stable home and becoming the sole caretaker of her daughters.
Almost 17 years later, the Davie resident was nominated to be Florida Mother of the Year and entered the race to be named the National Mother of the Year by American Mothers, Inc.

Since Emily Jewel Hoder was 3, her parents tried to find activities that forced her to use energy during the day so she could get to sleep at a decent hour. After several efforts, Emily finally took to dance.
After her first recital, Emily’s dance instructors asked that she audition for the studio’s competition team. From then on, Emily was on her way to becoming a great performer.
Broward County Girl Scouts go for the gold with community service projects
Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida celebrated with friends and family at the annual Gold Award Ceremony as they were rewarded for their charitable work in the community.
Several of the girls said they were overwhelmingly relieved when they learned they would receive the Gold Award, which is the organization’s highest honor for girls in grades 9 to 12.
